Group Work in Pandemic Times

Our first approach to group work.

One of the things I miss most about our old school days is to be able to work in groups. Our first attempt was not smooth. Four computers with different Google Meets at the same time, and a rolling chair. You can complete the rest. One thing was clear, students wanted to interact with each other.

As students trickled into the in-person classroom, we had to try new formats. This door system allowed students to choose how they wanted to work. Imagine "Create Your Own Adventure", math style. Students would choose a door that will lead them to work on their own, at the pace or if they needed assistance they would come work with me. Their last option was group work through a Google Meet code. The three doors had the same problems, so I was able to check their work remotely as they progressed. Also, adding a Google Form that required validation, made it into a Self-Check activity. Since students worked on their own or with their groups, I was able to support the ones at my table. The doors room also provided differentiation with extension activities for the students that finished.
