Last year's Digital Progress tracker went well, but it was a little too complex for some students, to make it simpler I decided to release the tracker every 9 weeks grading period. I also made a routine of returning the scores after every CFA, and give the students time to record them.

Using the Progress Tracker, we were able to celebrate progress, pinpoint areas of need and it also helped my students develop ownership of their learning. Students felt more confident when everyweek they saw their XtraMath, our math fluency program, scores incresase. I made emphasis that any growth, was growth and worth to be celebrated. The only way is up!

Before DCPs, we had conversations analyzing the tracker, and since each score correlates a topic it helped us focus in what students needed to practice. Students were able to set specific goals and make action plans to improve. For example: I need to practice double digit multiplication. I will try using Area Models.

On the second semester, I used this information and student's surveys to set Accountability Partners. Students were paired based on their strenghts and needs to support each other during classwork. These partnerships gave the kids a chance to work someone different than usual, while affirming their confidence and providing a friend to encourage them. Partners helped each other with Math Problems, to study for the Spelling Bee, work during reading. They checked and encourage each other about their goals.

Also at the end of each unit, students would color their Math Journey pathway according to our self-assessments categories: Expert, Apprentice, Novice. When we got ready for our STAAR review, we revisited our Math Journey and set goals for the review.

This tool has been very useful because once we establish that mistakes are learning opportunities and chances to grow, it helped our class speak freely about our work and support each other. Next year, I will continue working with Tracker and start earlier with the Accountability Partners.
