It's always an adventure to step out of our comfort zones, setting into new paths it's exciting but also beginnings could be messy. I've been hearing a lot about Edpuzzle, a tool that let's you transform a simple video into a lesson. So, I decided to give it a try. Our first lesson was asking comprehension questions about a realistic fiction,"Dog People." We recorded a video reading the story, at key points we asked questions, the video stopped and students had to submit their answers before continuing with the video. It was perfect for my kids, because they were able to hear the words, stop if needed and respond at their own pace.
My second attempt was tackling inferencing! Who doesn't love Pixar shorts? They are brief, wordless and perfect for inferencing. I used Partly Cloudy and inserted inferencing questions. My room had never been so quiet! Students were engaged, practiced their skill and submitted their work. I read their answers, left comments and graded them! Easy peasy!
You can create your own videos, or select one from many channels like YouTube, Khan Academy, etc. You can create a class or import it one from Google Classroom, then assign the videos and you are ready to go. So if you are looking for a new differentiation tool, that allows to give meaningful feedback and engages the students, give it a try. Go out and explore!
