When my principal told us that we were going to TCEA, I didn't know what to expect. Honestly, while getting ready and going through the enormous list of sessions was a little overwhelming, but living the experience was a game changer. Definitively, TCEA lives up to the expectations and empowers and energizes educators.
Three days packed of presentations, workshops, and being exposed to how other teachers and districts are using technology to enhance, deepen the learning experience. It was inspiring to say the least. My notes for this event are huge, and I have a long list of links and tools that I need to go through, but this is my take away.
Technology can be a tool for creativity, expansion, differentiation and to promote ownership.
It is up to us, the teachers, to design and implement ways to integrate technology into our lessons in a way that is more than just a game, or a digital version of a worksheet. This mindset is what can transform our practice. There were many workshops that impacted me, my favorite take aways were:
Hyperslides and hyperdocs to create choice boards and differentiate.
Integrating NEWSELA and Google Apps for reading comprehension.
Using technology to enforce TELPAS practice.
Allow creativity through technology.
On my to do list, cross fingers, I wish one day list... Student made Podcasts, News-crews in Elementary school.
My goal is to start using and integrating this tools in my practice, tweaking and learning. This is going to be fun! Oh, and I got to meet Moby!!
Update! So finally, we were able to play with poetry! We used Garage Band to make a base for our poems, the results are wonderful! Only a few students finished their tracks, but they are so excited! I got this idea from an Apple Edu workshop at TCEA. #mesqC2P
